The day was scorching that I had to remove my shirt and fanned myself with paper. It was gripping it felt like living on Earth, for whatever reason, but Earth is still the only planet that humans can comfortably inhabit, arguably, with not too much heat and cold. The slightest bit the earth approaching the sun, it is said that humans will not be able to survive, humanity will vanish. And just a little bit the earth moving away from the sun, it is said that humans will not be able to withstand the cold and become an ice statue.
At least in 2020, I still live on my beloved Earth, and at least I can still see the animals and plants that live in the wild there. A few days ago, I watched a video on YouTube about the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador, the first reason I watched it was my curiosity about Charles Darwin. How could Darwin have come up with such a revolutionary idea of the origin of species! It was incredible. I tried to position myself as Charles Darwin while watching the Galapagos Island broadcast. Instead of being Charles Darwin, I’m still Aji Samsudin! So amazing the giant turtle made my focus diverted.
It is said in the video, if Darwin has also met several tails of these giant tortoises, and it is from this giant tortoise that Darwin gets the next idea of his theory, then, he meets three Mockingbirds which make him even more able to see behind the mirror. But unfortunately, I’am not Charles Darwin, a person who has loved animals and plants since childhood, I’am only Aji Samsudin, a person who spends a lot of time in a small room in the house, alone, reading books, watching movies, listening to music, to write about these kinds of things, would of course completely differ my view of the outside world from Darwin’s.
Since Charles Darwin lived, it has been so long since I have lived. Even the grown-up Darwin, around 22 years of age, lived in the 1830s! Earth feels so old. But the Earth is still older too, because I know some figures who even lived several tens, even hundreds of years before Charles Darwin.
The first person I knew and idolized was Rene Descartes from France! It says in the introduction to his book, Discourses and Methods, of course this was written by the publisher of his book, if Rene Descartes was born on March 31, 1596! Much older than Charles Darwin, but once again I say, Earth is still much older than this, because I also know a variety of figures in the era even before the Common Era. With a book in hand, and a thought in mind, I was able to explore the City of Athens more than 2000 years ago! Seeing a young man who was chatting with an older man, seeing how the young man respected the old man, and considered the old man as the wisest man in Athens! Imagine how thoughtful the old man was. But then the old man had to take his life, because he was accused of teaching things that deviated from the customs of the Athenians, the old man drank poison. The young man who was so sad was said to have come out of the city and wandered about, it was from his journey that he wrote a lot of his works, with beautiful writing, and the main character who was always played by the figure of the old man. The young man came to be known as Plato, and the old man was named Socrates.
Earth also still has millions of interesting stories even long before Plato and Socrates, that is a sign that this blue planet is so old, it has witnessed many extraordinary stories of mankind, even large animals that are said to have lived long before the first humans arrived. his feet on this planet. Sometimes I often contemplate in the corner of my room, is it true that the Earth is so old? But why do I find it hard to feel? And maybe when I was very little, I thought of the Earth as something really new. The first time I saw rocks, water in a river, leaves on trees, maybe I was so happy because I saw something really new in my life. But I am a teenager now, 17 years of living on Earth, and feel that if the Earth is so ordinary, not that magical like when I was a child, why would that change? Has the Earth changed? Or am I the one who sees things like water, leaves and rocks too often to bore myself?
